![]() Together, these components control the flow of electrical current and signals to the fridge’s other parts, like its compressor, fans, motors, and more.Īs you can see, the main control board is connected to all fridge components and controls each of its functions. It’s a board with plenty of electrical and electronic components like: That’s because it’s a component responsible for controlling all of the appliance’s functions.įrom a technical perspective, the main control board is a type of printed circuit board (PCB). Most people see the main control board as the brain of your refrigerator. Based on that, no more LG anything for me.Let’s begin by understanding what a refrigerator control board is and what it does. The only metric being monitored seems to be "how many service calls can we prevent". I've consistently had less trouble with the DMV and post office than this. The icing on the shit cake was the text threatening to cancel the appointment if I didn't go through the same bullshit troubleshooting checklist again. Everyone/thing has a different idea as to the status of the ticket and everyone is working almost entirely independently. The LG repair process sucks and communication (within LG, between LG and myself+landlord, and with the third party vendor) is awful. I know techs are not empowered to change much but it's worth mentioning anyways. Ordering "everything related to cooling for your fridge" seems like a needlessly inefficient process though. We walked through the symptoms and he seemed to have a sense of where to start and what might already be damaged which was great. Yeah someone else from LG called and eventually I heard back from the tech who was only told "there's a problem with the refrigerator" (1+ hour on the phone and that's the only detail that was captured? lol). I've seen it done, we tried it one time in the shop on a scrap test unit, and it's not worth it, not when it can't be warrantied. And doing that is a complete and absolute gamble. Also, it requires a lot of rewiring, splicing, and basically reverse engineering of the harness and board to bypass whatever drives the linear compressor. There are other compressors that can be installed, but they will not be as quiet as LG's linear compressors are. ![]() Is there any way to get a more reliable compressor Normally sealed system work runs from 3-4, but its the parts and patience required to install the compressor and leak test it, and then program it without error, all while not having access to LG support. Out of pocket I've quoted as high as 800. The compressor has to be married to the board or else it will kick it back. If it's sealed system though, it needs the board and the compressor. Press it and it will run the compressor at max speed if it isn't already. Then go to the back of the refrigerator, remove the cover, and look for a button on the control. Reach inside the freezer while the compressor is running, see if its even cool. Had the fridge been 8 months older maybe not. Have to say I am fully satisfied with LG customer service from this experience. Tech was very nice and left him a good tip. įrom this I’m assuming it’s either a sealed system leak (unfixable) or from what I’ve read it could be the compressor has failed but is now internally broken.īefore I go out and buy another fridge, is there any way to get a more reliable compressor, or perhaps a warranty compressor from LG, as the fridge is likely only 3-5 years from the factory date ?ĮDIT: for Anyone in the future, LG sent out a tech the next day, fixed it no questions asked and free of charge. Fast forward 4 weeks and it’s now blowing room temp air, clean coils, fan running, no ice nothing unusual at all, compressor is also warm so it’s running. However my wife and I found one on FB marketplace (working and great condition) which we bought for 300$. Or if we like you.įirstly, I know these are unreliable fridges, and heard something about LG being sued for the compressor design.
